Chikuku, it must have been lost in translation.
Nabakov once said “Translation can be beautiful, or it can be faithful, but it cannot be both.”
Of course, Nabakov could write fluently in three languages, and didn’t even trust himself to translate some of his Russian books into English. Perhaps he though the temptation to re-write would be too great.
