Man, I don’t think Jim Davis is even trying anymore. I don’t think he has for years.

What’s not to try? It had me laughing ;)

Tho’ it is difficult to be original day in day out with only 2-4 panels year after year. Give the guy a break, or take one yourself until Garfield becomes refreshing again… Too much of a good thing and all

I think Garfield’s mock enthusiasm is original and makes the ‘Toon. Jon’s last statement is unnecessary, though. Now, haven’t I beaten the dead horse, so to speak!

TheSoundDefense, for anyone who has read MR. Davis’s strips from long ago, they would feel a bit of nostalgia in these last few. Glad to see he isn’t resorting to modern crude humor to make people laugh.

This is a classic Garfield moment, what’s not to like about it? I’ve read most of his strips, though it seems to me that Jon is getting better at reading Garfield’s mind lately.

I think Jim Davis (and his PAWS helpers) deserve great credit for maintaining so high a level of quality for so long, especially considering how few joke situations Davis has to work with (Garfield’s lazy, fat, hungry, doesn’t like dogs, doesn’t chase mice, etc.)

Sure, not every strip is a thigh-slapper, but hilarity is not the target; gentle humor is.

On the other hand, the occasional breaks in the standard gags (like visits to the farm) are welcome, and when Jon got a girlfriend it was seismic, on the order of Cathy getting married.

Keep up the good work, Jim! I’ll be happy to read the 50th Anniversary Garfield when we get to it.

I think they need to bring back Arlene and Nermal. They always added a lot of laughs to the strip. And Garfield’s hatred of Mondays.

Naturally, the cat always does the way like that. Sleep, wake-up and go back to sleep again. Ha!

Garfield reminds me of my teen-aged son.

Indeed, missevernight, can you just BELIEVE how cute rusty old Garfield looks in the second panel. Check out the smile, check out the paws ! Such cuteness for a couple of milliseconds, that must have cost such a lot of energy that he’ll sleep through the day !!
