My grandparents had a phone like that until about 2005! (Yes I’m serious!!) And yes this prank would work! There are 2 small buttons on the spot Garfield put the banana and as long as they are both depressed the phone will ring and the receiver laying there would easily pick up Jon saying hello and screaming. Granted this joke was probably funnier back in 1989 when it didn’t have to be explained
