I’m just waiting for the argument that the spill was caused by the gu’mint OVER-regulating the oil industry.

Does anyone recall that Obama received $71,000 dollars in 2008 for his campaign, the single largest donation at that time from BP? Why would he bring the hammer down when their hilts are massaging his political prostate?

Mmmmmmaybe because the issue is MUCH larger than $71K.

At this point I’m uncertain about whether he’ll really do anything… but I’m hoping. I did ask before about whether cleaning up oil spills has been a gov’t or industry duty in the past.

J., that sort of concern is going to skyrocket now that the Supreme Court has allowed unlimited corporate donations.

Lalas, I guess it depends on whether one believes that the federal government should be small and non-intrusive or not.

From lobbyists on behalf of BP, one of 13 corporate representatives from the oil/natural gas industry which spread some 36 billion, in ‘08, around D.C., a bigger cesspool than in the Gulf. And, Anthony, you are preaching to the choir, for there ain’t no politician worse than a Southern one, as Dems and Repubs are indistinguishable here. I know, living in the Southeast, it’s costing the tourist and trolling industry some 12 billion dollars. Memorial day weekend couldn’t be worse for tourism, some hotels are closing and only expecting 15 percent capacity, ADEM and LSU is doing more to protect Dauphin Island and the wetlands, despite the fact that 20 miles of marsh and grassfields disappear yearly from naturally sea water erosion, just nature’s way. Now, couple that with oil funnels carried by currents into said areas, and we have a problem that 10 days of Administrative waffling cannot ameliorate. This is Obama’s Katrina as his ilk were just as lacklustre in response as his predecessor.

…And way to go, Arlen Specter, you old crone, and Blumenthal! That’s a kind of integrity if you look at every Exit as an Entrance to somewhere else.

Ironic that the same rightie-mouthpieces that are constantly calling for limited federal government and removal of federal regulation and oversight conveniently and completely forget those goals when it comes to something like this.
