That’s the problem, isn’t it. The politicians that are supposed to be representing us aren’t listening to us, and the problem has been going on for a long time and is not confined to one party.

My suggestion as pay for Congress: the mean (or median whichever is lower) income for your district is your salary. And, any income from public speaking, books, etc are subtracted from that amount.

I agree McGehee however, in my district the opposing party has failed to provide a viable candidate. In ‘06 there was no way I could vote for the party that I am registered with candidate because of their lack of qualifications.

If Congressmen and Senators were paid the average salary of their districts, then those from rich districts would be paid more than those from poor districts. It’s just the same “The rich get richer, the poor get the picture” scenario. Their salaries should be tied to some percentage of the median annual income NATIONWIDE. If “A rising tide raises all boats”, then let’s BEGIN with raising up the lowest, and let the benefits “trickle up.”

Yup, no one in office gets it. I’m stoking my wood stove tonight (this is JUNE, for crying out loud!). I’ll chuck more cash into the carbon hysteria while splitting more wood. How wrong is that?

I always love the David Crockett quote, from when he was a Senator. He told one other one, “Senator, it ain’t your money!” And that about explains why they didnt like him in DC, he told the truth.

Unfortunately that would only give “those currently running the system” the same influence they have now, without their having to spend any of their own money to get it. Do you really think politicians will listen to their constituents any better just because the campaign money comes from taxes instead of voluntary donations?
