Is that first line in English? Oh, he used “earn” in the punchline, so I guess that means Stantis had to butcher the opening line to make it work. Worst comic strip writer ever.

It reads clear to me. Perhaps you are letting your criticism cloud your comprehension.

TheFurnace has every right to comment, JDG. It’s a free country, man! If you don’t like it, you can move to France and eat French Fries and hate freedom!

PS: Butt – as in BUTT OUT! – has two t’s. BUT OUT makes you sound French.

Free country? Sounds like entitlement sneaking in the back door with that attitude. Anyone is free to make an informed comment, and , hey, Furnace has a point. Of course the point is picking nits instead of appreciating the irony but hey, to each his own.

So if I understand it, I have to earn the right to comment by becoming informed.

Or as Stantis would say, I have to inform myself to deserve to comment.

You can also “earn” your place by being the opposite of something else: Prickly City is the opposite of Doonsebury, bad is the opposite of good. Okay, I really should have thought of two different examples…

Char and Navy – Yes indeed, there is no restriction legally or practically on insuring opinions are based on fact, but it is far more useful when they are, don’t you think?

Of course, the corollary to people thinking rights come without responsibilities (i.e. entitlement) is that people also think it is OK to have an opinion without knowing facts on which to base the opinion. But, again, if it makes you feel good, I guess that is OK by today’s standards…. Oh wait, I thought we were against entitlement mentalities?

And FT III – nice. I may use that line! :)

Oh, and Furnace: “I have to inform myself to deserve to comment” – too funny. :) Yeah, OK the syntax *is* tortured, but the cartoon is still good, don’t you think?
