Happy pirates? After all, that’s what “gay” really means; “happy.”

I hear people on the teevee calling Sparrow a gay pirate all the time, including, I think, even Depp.

This is what irks me about so much of what gets said on subjects like this——the casual dehumanization. Gays are not a “controversial social issue,” they are people. That fact gets very easily obscured by heated rhetoric and by an environment where people who are NOT gay somehow think they have the right to actually VOTE on whether people who are NOT themselves can do this or that.

Human beings, not “controversial issues.” I’m not saying you meant any malice, but again——it’s very easy to casually dehumanize people when so much out there encourages doing so.

I don’t know too many “gays” who enjoy being called “gays”. People may be gay but they are still people. I don’t called heterosexual people “straights”!

Seamen’s earrings were magnetize iron loops, and believe that they would help a lost sailor find home. Often given by loved ones. Remember a sea voyage at one time was like a trip to Mars today. Took about the same amount of time and almost as dangerous.
