On the realistic and picky side of things (having never been to camp as a kid myself), Wouldn’t a camp counselor normally have been chosen from older former campers at the same camp?
I served as chaplain at a church camp some years ago, and every single counselor had been a camper there, and then a CIT before getting the counselor gig.
