Agreed, omQ R, but there are precedents - Turkey, which as far as I know does not border on the Atlantic, became a member as early as 1952, and those great sea-faring nations, the Czech Reublic and Hungary, in 1999. So why not Afghanistan as a field (not poppy field) of operations ? After all, Imperial overreach is Imperial overreach….
