After getting roughed up by Moe, Calvin doesn’t want to get mauled by Hobbes.

    Calvin,

You’ll be glad when you go into adulthood. You’ll probably tell your kids (if you have any) “winnning isn’t everything, even if your life depends on it.”

is he an Auburn Tiger, a Grambling Tiger, an LSU Tiger, a Princeton Tiger, or one of the hundreds of other Tigers existing in college football? i’d vote Princeton, but i have a bias for those Tigers.

I’m so sorry to everyone who had a bully story yesterday and thank you for your comments on mine. Calvin is smart, sometimes you just got to know when to surrender. I know playing with my dogs at times and they got carried away with wanting the ball that I’ve just given it to them rather than lose a finger. Enjoy those after Christmas sales everyone. I’m off with my son today to buy his gift of dress work clothes for his new job.

Winning isn’t everything, but it beats the hell out of losing.

Calvin has come one step closer to inventing Calvinball: the only game in the world he can win, sort of.

Actually, in “Calvinball” the winner is the one who has the lowest score. Hobbs hasn’t figured that out yet.

I’m always amazed by Calvin’s vocabulary. “Ambulatory” is quite impressive for a 6 year old! I have freshmen who don’t know what the word means…

In grammar school, I knocked the bully behind me on his a$$ a minute before the teacher returned to the class. He had been giving me shots for a couple of minutes when I let him have it. He waited for me after school, but I just stood there , ducking and weaving, and laughing at him while his friends stood around.

He never bothered me again. In fact, a few years later, I left a small party when he came. I let it be known I wouldn’t be seen in the same room with him.

    From yesterday:

Susan001 said, about 22 hours ago

GregandHeather, Calvin’s last name is Spiff. Don’t know if he has a middle name.

He doesn’t have a LAST name, either, Susan. “Spiff” isn’t Calvin’s last name; it’s the FIRST name of one of his imaginary characters, Spaceman Spiff. As I said yesterday, Bill Watterson never bothered to give Calvin’s family a last name (or even first names to his parents), since he simply considered such details irrelevant.

That’s also why we never heard from Uncle Max again, incidentally, because Bill realized that he’d never given Calvin’s dad a name, and it was ridiculous to have Uncle Max never call Calvin’s parents by name.

As far as I know, the only character in C & H who had both a first name and a last name was Susie Derkins.
