Netanyahu was through here recently on his little European tour and probably heard several European leaders say Israel should unconditionally halt all settlement construction. The US had also asked Israel to halt Jewish settlements construction in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

I don’t trust ol’ Bibi but we shall see how this pans out over the next couple of months.
Meanwhile Egypt has been brokering reconciliation efforts between Fatah & Hamas. Sometimes I think they’re their own worst enemy.
Satipera: I know what you mean. I actually came from a pro-Israeli pov until I moved to Europe and was able to get other viewpoints and access to uncensored press. I’m hopefully now more neutral. I remember being told that I could only understand Israel’s viewpoint by going out there. I did in the late ’90s. I also discovered the viewpoint from the Westbank.
The Israelis were not very happy when I kept comparing the status quo as a defacto apartheid. I also described their laager mentality as being similar to that of the whites of South Africa pre-1994. Afterall, what did I know?
This may go against motherhood and apple pie, but I have a humble suggestion. Without wanting to be anti-semitic, I believe the current Israeli government has thumbed its nose, not only at the world and the Palestinians, but at us, totally ignoring our entreaties to stop with the settlements. So, what if we simply cut off all aid of every sort to Israel until they start paying attention? That way, we’re not forcing them to do what they don’t want, but we don’t have to contribute to it either. Just a thought - but it’s our money we’re giving them, and we ought to be able to redirect it if we feel it’s being abused.
