The 1880’s the Brits were still busy empire building. That’s where we subjecate your people, take your resources and use them for our own purposes.

Nation building is where we risk our peoples lives, take our own resources and use then them for someone elses purposes.

Obama is right, it is ridiculous to call this a war. War is between two or more sovereign nations. You have to have at least one country on each side for it to be a war. Our guys in uniform fight their guys in uniform.

This is a quagmire. We got the tar baby stuck on us good and we can’t get it off without hurting ourselves. There are tens of thousands of NATO, UN and US troops over there, fighting not much more than 10,000 guys who don’t like us. They’re not even organized, It’s just a bunch of little gangs who every once in awhile come out and get violent. Then they run and hide and look like everyone else. It’s not a conflict that you can use conventional tactics and strategy. It’s not a war. Obama is right. If we insist on calling it a war and trying to fight it like a war we’ll never get out of this mess.

Trying to treat this like a war is like killing your wife when all you want is a divorce. It might solve one problem but all it does it create others.

Don’t believe that convenient fiction, Dypak, that «we», unlike all those others, are altruistic and use our own resources to help the suffering in foreign lands. In 1629, Charles I of England granted the Massachusetts Bay Company its charter, in which, it was stated, that «the principal end of this plantation» was to rescue the natives from their bitter pagan fate. The Great Seal of the Colony depicts an Indian saying «Come Over and Help Us». How many members of the Wampanoag, Pequot, Nipmuck, or Massachuset tribes have you met lately ? Not being naive, the majority of Afghanis doesn’t fall for that line, rather regarding those who cooperate with the US invasion (to our shame, we even have Swedish troops there, to help kill people in their own country as a token of our loyalty to the Empire) as Vidkun Quisling epigoni. They regard it, rightly, as a war - a real war, with real people being murdered - on them and theirs. The best thing the United States could do would be to withdraw all its troops and dismantle all its bases there, but alas, what we have seen hitherto of Mr Obama’s policies shows there’s little chance of that….
