I am willing to look at the details of an issue whenever possible. You also need to define your use of spy. Your casual dismissal of the Rio Tinto employees as spies shows an apalling lack of interest in what is actually going on.

Anyone with the least knowledge of the business practices of major corporations in Asia - or Africa or Latin America or Europe or North America - knows that corruption and industrial espionage are le plat du jour. But of course, those who prefer the convenient dramaturgy of dastardly Chinese on the one side and plucky Aussies on the other are not going to see it that way….

I initially wasn’t promoting either side. However, the individuals in question are not being charged with industrial espionage but with stealing state secrets. This moves it out of the realm of buisness as usual. Also, those who prefer to demonize big buisness for everything will rarely look into all aspects of the situation.
