They’ve just been waiting a decent period after John Paul II passed. But who knew the belt loosening (so to speak) would come on his successor’s watch??!!

Pab references a comment by the Vatican on a new biography of O. W. Wilde wrote quite a few stories that did not conflict with orthodox Catholicism. He struggled throughout his life with his sexuality, his tendency to hedonism and with a strong draw to religion, having sexual relationships wth both men and women, as well as periods of complex, poly amorous arrangements . He converted to Roman Catholicism before his death.

Wilde was a great example of how someone can have a VERY wild youth and still return to the Church in maturity, which is no doubt how he earned a Vatican endorsement. I use a couple of his short stories adapted as animated films in Religious Ed. classes, most notably “The Selfish Giant”.
