It is okay to take up to ten minutes to get the menu posted once you have said hello first. A little more is fine, but people get antsy after ten minutes. But you might want to mention you will be making breakfast.

We have a CIMA drill at 8AM today. It’ll surely interfere with my morning toon tour.

The tornados touched down around the South side of Dallas, Kab and to the north around the Red River area. I don’t have much in the way of details, but none of them touched down in the Houston area.

Sojourner, tonight’s game is on NBC. All Sunday games are local channels, but you’re subject to regional action for the day games. Monday’s is ESPN.

Sometimes when Texans games are on ESPN or the NFL network, the game will be on a local station so the people in Houston can see it.

I get bother stations as part of my package + the Sunday Ticket, so it just doesn’t matter to me.

Thanks Grog - I’ll watch it then. Believe it or not one of our local station’s web site (for a major network) doesn’t even show the program listing anymore from the national broadcast. It just says movie, sports, to be announced etc. so I don’t know what’s going to be on that channel!

Hi, & thanks, Sojo! I can’t take credit for that one, as you can tell by the copyright. It did say as long as the picture was unaltered, I could use it. It does remind me of going to Kruger Park & trying to spot the animals. Interesting tidbit - that picture was taken on a private game preserve right next to Kruger park, and no fences in-between the two, so the animals can go back & forth. But leopards aren’t seen often in Kruger, because they like to hide, and visitors to Kruger must stay on the main (paved) roads.

Rmom - I found out how hard it is to spot leopards when I got the Animal Planet network and watched a lot of the Big Cat Diaries. The African photos I posted has a large tree with a leopard in it showing how hard is is to see it.

As he was a teacher he sometimes spent entire summers doing research and went to England and found some things. I don’t remember the mans name, I think it was 5 letters long. It was actually before the Vikings. At that time it was all seperate villages and he organized them together and led them. They turned into the Vikings latter. I think that was 65 generations before me.

I got lucky in that I found a book with my grandparents’ names in it, that went back to 900AD. Other than that, I’m doing good to have more than a generation before the one that immigrated. I’ve shared my info with my cousins, but the only one who cared to spend time researching is my “as sharp as a ball bearing” brother, so his research didn’t add to the info I already had. (He’ll look at names in phone books in England, rather than researching records from the time frame our ancestors were there.) I thought I’d get into it while teaching history, but that work would be going in the opposite direction to the way we studied that subject. (We went from Creation forward, not from today backwards.) But I did put up the family tree info along with the history timeline, so it made European history more interesting. For instance, we figured out which side of the “War of the Roses” our ancestors were on. At least one of our ancestors participated in the Norman invasion, on the winning side. (Built Warwick Castle.) So, the genealogy was helpful in making history seem more real.

SOJOI think your right about the connection to Charlemagne as another family member has us traced back to him (but not proven) with the smatterings of obligatory royalty hither and yon.

Somehow it would seem the Flag tattoo would be mentioned more. I have read several books on Lincoln and have not come across this info.

Also, through our history, we got hooked on reading the “Brother Cadfael” books, and I read the whole series to the family. After we’d read them all, I checked some of the movies out from the library. Really neat for the period costumes, etc. However, the movie had a different villain than one in the book, and the movie villain would have been an ancestor, or at least a traceable cousin, so we were rather offended!

I think the tattoo was suspected from a study of his corpse. They found blue and red dye on his chest that may of been a flag. Not real history material but was maybe a fact.

Good evening all. Best Big Sister I liked your version of football and I’m no football fan. You make it sound more interesting. Not sure how I would trace my side or hubby’s side of family tree. Curious question did anyone see Good Morning America after 8am? Just wondering.

I’m just popping briefly. Oh hubby called me at work someone don’t know who broke our son’s driver side window, door locked, and stole a sterio unit out that was fairly new. Hubby did call it in and insurance, then had window replaced. Our son’s car was parked on street like it’s been parked for past 3 years. When we came here 3 years ago our daughter’s guy had his car parked on driveway and this I saw the car as it drove away heard a noise before driving away when morning came there was damaged to both front and back window.

hope&joy - I never made it to Europe, but my parents & sister toured the Warwick castle. Unfortunately, I found out AFTER they came back that Mom’s ancestor built the original Warwick castle. (I think it was of wood, and the stone version was done by a later descendant. Our line doesn’t go through the later descendant, because our line wasn’t the eldest son.) I just found my mom’s pictures of that trip, so I made sure to scan Warwick Castle pictures.

Sojo - I’ve never heard about Lincoln having a tattoo. I’m skeptical, since most Christians back then would not have gotten one. Hi, Kab! - Nope, don’t watch tv.

Rmom - It isn’t a proven fact just speculation from what was discovered I think. Certainly not text book material.

I think you are right RMom about the original wood. Amazing we have as many in one piece (stone etc) as we do. Remember the Windsor Castle fire destroyed a lot of the inside…a ceremonial hall if I remember.

Sojo Interesting info. to ponder and more evidence is always showing up on these things.

Sojo - I can’t say I’ve exhaustively researched Lincoln, but I’ve done a fair amount of studying him. Mom used to say we were related to him, because her grandma’s maiden name was Ann Rebecca Hanks. More of my genealogical research proved there was no direct link. All of my Civil War veterans are from the Union side, too. I don’t think any of my ancestors were from Kentucky. (Almost all Yankees - there were some in one of the Carolinas, but by the Civil War, my relatives on that line were in Minnesota!)

I guess my first statement shoudn’t have been so strong about the tattoo. It is a possibility from what was found.

Sojo - Sounds like there could have been other explanations besides a tattoo. Just saying from what I know of Christian culture from that era, and that Lincoln was a devout Christian, I’d be surprised if he had a tat.

Your looking up history is interesting and I never consider President Lincoln with a tatoo. But I remember on some show why Mr. Lincoln kept his beard, I know you where talking about ancestary, was due to a young girl asking him to.

Thanks The Sojourner I feel for my sister and hubby, he might have to later in week make more mustard, not like Frenches either, she hopes a friend of theirs daughter or mom will be able to help some during week. 12 hours long time. The three of us will go up refreshed then drag ourselves home. My mom will have a camp type folding chair she can rest on. They will have my hubby doing a lot of running. I will be repeating over and over.

KAB From what little I know due to my sister, Birth certificates, Death certif, marriage, census records, and land sales, old family Bibles etc. We did have some ligitimate searches done by one person who was recommended on one of our lines. I like the stories more than names and dates as do most people.

Sorry to hear of your theft problems. Take care, KAB

Good talking with you RMOM, I’m gone for the night :+))

Kab - I don’t know how to do it on-line, as when I was researching it was before the internet. I did use an on-line bulletin board for genealogy, but that was so long ago, I don’t remember much. The Wichita public library downtown has a genealogy section. That might be a good place to start. They could help you, or at least point you in the right direction.

    Good E-vening, everyone!

(in my best Hitchock imitation) It’s good to be back, even if I can’t stay long tonight.

jarlyddie, there’s always the option of posting another meal menu at a different time of day–some like to offer lunch or supper.

Sojo said, about 6 hidden animals ago

Rmom - I found out how hard it is to spot leopards when I got the Animal Planet network and watched a lot of the “Big Cat Diaries”. The African photos I posted has a large tree with a leopard in it showing how hard is is to see it.

There was also a Nature episode on Himalayan snow leopards where they showed how hard it was actually to spot the cats: they showed the full mountainside, all boulders and grey rocks, and then gradually pulled in to show the one leopard waiting in the midst of all the scenery.

Earliest my family tree has been traced to is the reformation, 1540s in Graubunden (now Switzerland). Seems even then one ancestor was staunchly Catholic–he moved to a new commune rather than become a Reformed Christian. He was also involved, apparently, in the delegation that made peace with Zwingli in 1529, as holder of the seal of one of the leagues.
