You may be giving Congress too much credit. You don’t want to work on too many high profile things at once. There’s only so much media time out there.
I don’t buy it. Wouldn’t the political strategy be to wait closer to the next election before attacking Cheney?
People have short memories, so wouldn’t they want to work on other things first? And if they don’t have enough success they can attack Cheney to distract people from their screw-ups?
If that was the ploy as Morin suggests, why would they do this so soon after the election? They have 4 years to drag this out.
iam, I don’t buy it either … wanting truths to come out, say in the form of a blue-ribbon commission at the very least, is not a ploy to distract or affect elections, IMHO.
There are many people in Congress who revere the Constitution and the principles this country was founded upon. I think they want the truth revealed about constitutional violations even if no prosecutions result. A lesson for history, perhaps.
Attacking Cheney? The same way they attacked Bernie Madoff or that S.C. serial killer? One can only wish that they would attack this criminal like they did the others.
More than a few in addition to Cheney- like Ashcroft, Gonalaz, Yu, Rumsfeld, et al who lied, repeatedly, AND many who profited personally from their actions- in violation of law. It is NOT about politics, it IS about the law.
It’s worth mentioning that Cheney keeps putting himself out there, which the Republican establishment isn’t fond of, either.
I think we should re-introduce keelhauling just for him, incidentally. Preferably on an aircraft carrier.
Fair Tax is good. Private business–that’s good, too. But “once in office?” Forget him, he’s not the one who is choking us with unread, trillion dollar Bills. Too much, too fast. AND–once done, it’s done!

Accurate depiction of the profundity of the mess left for this president to try to fix.

Sure the top priority should be the economy and health care but it’s like Simon said Congress is able to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Executive office violations of the Constitution remain unconstitutional even in a recession and two wars.
