You can tell by the look on Lio’s face that he didn’t expect that to happen! This is, most likely, a standard scientific experiment that grade 5 kiddoes could handle. However, the truth is many countries live with active volcanoes in their midst and many people die when the volcanoes erupt. This is a ’ strong’ way of getting that point across. I thought it was very very effective in explaining the strong fear people have when living in island communities that consist mostly of these volcanoes.
