kreniigh - empathy should be in the laws of a nation and not dictated from the bench. But I guess it’s too much to expect congress to do the job they were hired to do.
nomad, judges have throughout our nation’s history used more empathy than you would like to admit. Empathy means being able to put yourself in the other person’s shoes. Whether it be the shoes of the defendant or the victim (and sometimes the defendant is the victim as well), I would argue that it is near impossible to judge without exercising a bit of empathy.
If you want to stick to the letter of the law rather than the spirit of the law, aside from truly parting ways with Christian teaching, then you’ll be sorely disappointed in most of our nation’s judges through most of our history.
kreniigh and cdward: Your theology is wrong and is non-sequitur to your usual reasoning, anyway. (You both have argued against interpolating one’s religious beliefs into politics; if, I’m not mistaken).
“Empathy” as the Dems use it does not mean “clemency, mercy”. It means social-activism.
Excellent point, nomad.
I think Clay drew the old Busch Stadium, No. 2. We’re up to No. 3.

Every ceremonial pitch I’ve ever watched has been terrible. Most in the dirt. Does this have any bearing on anything?

It shows Obama can’t make his living with baseball. Of course, that has nothing to do with his actual job.

I voted for a guy I could see eating arugula with while drinking a lovely pinot noir… not a baseball player.

One of the themes of the New Testament is the transition from the rigid, coldly judging Old Testament God to the empathetic teachings of Jesus.
By making ‘empathy’ a dirty word, the Right is essentially admitting that this is not a Christian nation.

Ilf ceremonial pitches are terrible, switch to hockey. Ceremonial puck drops are much easier.
