I’m not taking up for her, but I do imagine a close scrutiny of many an academic paper published by “scholars” would bear the taint of plagiarism. Likely some of her accusers.

Gorsuch plagiarized.

Dershowitz plagiarized.

Ackman’s wife plagiarized.

Chris Rufo lied about having a master’s degree from Harvard.

Yet the same cons who targeted Claudine Gay don’t care one bit …but it’s totally not because they’re racist?

We need to separate the idea of “privilege” from race and gender.

Claudine Gay had well off parents and went to Exeter, the most elite, expensive high school in America. She was not “excluded” from anything.

Kamala Harris’s father was a professor at Stanford.

Justice Ketangi Browns’ dad was an attorney and her mom a private school principal.

They all grew up (and succeeded) with upper class privilege.

Gay probably could have ridden this out if it had only been her anti- Semitic comments and a couple of plagiarized articles. But when the number of plagiarized complaints, several from prominent black women, topped over fifty, that was too much, even for Harvard. What she did is apparent and irrefutable. That she went and played the race card furthered the damage when many white people who committed the same offense had their careers ruined. As it is she will keep her $900,000 yearly salary.

It is not always someone else’s fault. University presidents who honestly admit their mistakes are a $1M a dozen.
