Extra points to Mr. Anderson for not using a robot image, because AI isn’t a robot.

Where do you think or how does AI acquires terabytes of data to process for a decision?

and none of this stuff being called AI is artificial intelligence at all. It’s very sophisticated pattern recognition and copying software, but NOT intelligence

This is extremely unfortunate for authors, composers and anyone who has published copyrighted materials. The primary culprit is Google following their direct copying millions of books from libraries all over the world. All “free” to Google.

News of the day: NY Times has filed a suit against M$ and OpenAI claiming copyright infringement, for using large quantities of their material in training AI models.

This needs to happen, and the law needs to weigh in on the IP rights here.

Of course they do. They don’t get to say what’s fair use.

Drive creatives into penury, and creativity suffers. Just look at the auto-tuned, Spotifyed music industry. Art used to start with creativity; now it starts with a business plan.

IMO the monster should be labelled “pencil-neck tech-geek execs who think it’s okay to steal the work of others to amass money by selling a mislabelled product”. Probably not enough room on the monster.

The problem and the reason why we should be concerned about AI are the same. It will be with us forever and we only have to mess it up once and we are in trouble. This isn’t the first time anything like this has happened. Nukes, we mess up just one time and we are no longer here.

I guess GoComics is no longer carrying this. There are new cartoons on Nick Anderson’s Facebook page.

I wonder if Nick is protesting this evolution by not producing cartoons for nearly a month.
