First, the depiction of President Biden supporting this violence is a lie.
Our envoys are trying to step between combatants in a truly heinous brawl, that was at the very least allowed by Netanyahu’s carelessness, and at worst, secretly orchestrated by Netanyahu to use as an excuse to take control of Gaza and the West Bank.
Ted Rall is oversimplifying the situation. There is never a binary solution to conflicts that have gone on for many years. He is purporting there are binary answers to non-binary questions.
I think it is pretty obvious to all sane minds that Netanyahu has to be eliminated from the equation before there is any chance for resolution to this awful conflict. BTW, the death of those 3 innocent hostages is outrageous yet it seems to be only a blip on the radar for much of the MSM regardless if they are backing the Trumpster and his alt-right blackshirts or Biden and his gang of corporate, conservative democrats. Most of the world demands a ceasefire, yet the US continues to let Israel go scorched earth. Yes, Hamas is evil but is it okay to kill hundreds of innocent people to get a few bad dudes, do the needs of the few powerful and mighty 1%ers outweigh the needs of the majority?
faulty comparison — the blame belongs on Hamas. We can’t dictate how Israel handles it. All we can do is pressure it to limit civilian casualties, which Hamas wants as many as possible.
The U.S. has supplied billions in aid (much lethal) to Israel each year for a long time. Could/should the U.S. have put conditions on the aid, i.e. that Israel work for a 2 state solution? Perhaps, depends on who the neighboring states ended up as. But an interview I read last week with an Israeli citizen said it all (paraphrasing): “who negotiates with a terrorist organization (Hamas) dedicated to your destruction”. She supported Israel’s efforts to destroy Hamas.
The Catch-22 for the US is we are giving Israel money for bombs and then we will be expected to give money to rebuild all the buildings Israel bombed. We currently can’t build housing for 700,00 homeless Americans; what will the tab be for 2 million Gazans? What about the oil rich Gulf States??? They likely will tell us you broke it, you bought it.
It is absurd for Israel to think after they have eliminated Humas, the surviving Gazans will be contrite and not seek revenge for the next 75 years.
Learning that Zionism and Semitism are somewhat not the same thing… I found this piece which may explain much of what is going on in the Middle East.. (be sure to unmute)
That is completely untrue, uninformed, and wrong. Biden is doing as he must do, supporting and enforcing the U.S. commitment made in 1948. Biden supports and has called for the ‘Two State Solution’ that Netanyahu refuses to accept. Biden has called for the pause, and cease fires that would save lives on both sides. Biden is pressuring Netanyahu to stop this war, Netanyahu refuses.
Netanyahu’s policies brought about this latest ‘war’. He has violated agreements made in 1948 that established Israel, and refused govern all of Israel’s citizens equally. While the U.S. has committed to guarantee Israel’s right to exist, Netanyahu has tried to use the U.S. to further his own agenda. This has had Obama in the past, and Biden now warning Netanyahu about consequences to his actions.
Biden will not downplay the several thousand who have been killed or the brutality by Hamas terrorists who committed atrocities, nor should he. But Biden should not ignore Netanyahu’s settlements in lands that were agreed not to be settled by Israel. Netanyahu’s policies can be compared to Hitler’s policy of ‘Lebensraum’. Netanyahu’s policies are to take lands with settlers for Israel’s growth, ’more “elbow room”. In the end, two wrongs do not make a right. Biden must walk the fine line upholding U.S. commitments while ending Netanyahu’s policies.
The last polls I’ve seen show 90% of the Israeli people want to continue the war, until Hamas is eliminated. About 75% of Palestinians support armed resistance & almost none think 10/7 was a war crime. Thinking the US President is going to put an immediate halt to this is delusional. What’s not delusional, is the fact that a Trump administration would be actively supporting far more aggressive actions by the IDF & laughing at anyone who expresses concern over a humanitarian crisis. I don’t expect any change for the better until Netanyahu & Abbas are both replaced.
Of course, the real problem is that “choose A or B” is taken as a given in the US. How about Cornel West or Jill Stein? (too bad that West is fading away, plus he probably won’t be on the ballot most places).
Blame Biden for Bibi’s reckless war on Gaza, typical. Any half-wit can see that Biden is trying to stop the civilian death toll. Oh right, you’re a no-wit cartoonist. And you forgot 45 first separates kids from parents before sending the parents home. That is a true atrocity.

Ted, sometimes I agree with you, but your depiction of Biden is way-far off base.

Hey Ted, you are placing blame on unfettered gun violence on President Biden. Why?

There was never a Muslim ban under Trump. Only a ban on travel from countries that the Obama administration claimed were dangerous.
