Having kids is all about you. Nurturing children is all about them.

No matter how f#&@-up we leave this place, we will be leaving this place — to them.

My grandparents wanted kids and between the two families I had 5 aunt-and-uncle families. They all went to college, and all had families. I had 22 cousins-or-sibs: a bit over 3 per family on average.

My parents wanted kids… and got one; then adopted 5 more (and fostered several others). Among their six kids, there were seven grand kids: Slightly more than one per family on average.

I wanted kids… and we got one, despite considerable effort (and pleasure) attempting more. We didn’t feel we could afford to adopt so one was it.

My son has never married, nor propagated, so far as we believe: Zero per family.

And that seems to be a pretty typical picture of how the generations view the having of children.

I got the daughter fixed before she could procreate. If the son wants children, he and his boyfriend will have to adopt.
