These days if you’re wearing surfer shorts to work, instead of being an “out-of-touch geezer”, you’d be an “out-of-work bum”

(Yeah, I’m sure there are some workplaces that still allow that, but they’re much more scarcer than they used to be when this comic was created.)

I work at a criminal defense law firm, and I was surprised how casual it is. On court days we have to wear suits, of course, but if you’re just working around the office it is jeans (nice ones, not the torn up bleached out ones kids wear) and a blouse (polos for the guys). My friends who work at civil firms have to dress up everyday. Maybe it’s because contracts pay better than crime, so they can afford more fancy clothes :-)

When I went from corporate attorney to university professor it was so wonderful to able to wear casual clothes. If I were KING the first order I gave would be to BAN the use of TIES under ANY circumstances. Why do we continue to choke ourselves in the fashion of the 19th century. At least we’ve given up starched callers.

For curiosity, why do women wear pants suits instead of “female apparel”, but men can’t wear blouse or skirt?

Just like I said yesterday: Irving doesn’t have a single clue about women!

ProfessorTruth: Pantsuits can be made to look more feminine for women but I just don’t know of any way to make skirts and blouses look more masculine for men! But why would a man, gay or straight, want to wear a skirt and blouse anyhow?!?!? That just seems plain weird to me!
