If they’d mix up those “diets”, it wouldn’t be half bad.

There are people who eat very low carb diets that are higher in fat and protein who are quite healthy. However, these diets are hard to stick with for most people because the body craves carbs, their being necessary for overall health.

What I think that she was trying to point out here is the frustration of women everywhere who are trying to lose weight while it seems like a man who gets to eat more calories loses weight faster than a woman. Women are given more fat by nature.

Also, it has now been proven that being fat can be genetic. A gene has been identified (the FTO gene) which causes some to be predisposed to being fat. It doesn’t mean that these people can never lose weight, but it makes it harder. Lastly, no matter how much weight one loses the fat cells never go away. They simply shrink and lay in weight (pun intended) for an opportunity to fill back up.This is why weight comes back on so easily. I have lost a ton of weight in my lifetime, and only recently 99 pounds. It is a very difficult process and a daily struggle. i still have a long way to go. So before you start making fun of people, try walking a mile in their shoes (even if they are 6 inch stiletto heels.

frightenup: Right on. I like nearly all foods, mix ‘em all up, count the calories and enjoy what I eat. I use the engineer’s diet i.e. calories in minus calories out (depends greatly on activity level) times a personal factor gives weight gained or lost in the long run.

Yes, Cathy is going to eat all that good healthy stuff and then blow her diet by eating a bunch of munchies after dinner… :)

It is true (and quite unfair) that men have a much easier time losing weight because of their musculature. I chose Weight Watchers because you can eat anything you want and still lose weight – you just have to overcome “portion distortion.” Despite taking cancer meds that pack on the pounds, I’ve been able to stay at or below my goal weight for 5 years. I’m quite satisfied with the plan.
