Easy way to deal with immigration at the southern border- email a free subscription to American newspapers to every one in central and south America. The desire to immigrate to America would end overnight. (If YOU didn’t already live here, would you move here?) It would never happen though because American businesses would lose a cheap and easily-abused labor source.
Many of the immigrants already have relatives or friends in the US so they have an idea of what it is like now — imagine what their situation is in their home country if they are still willing to spend whatever money they have, walk thousands of miles, and wait in a tent scrounging for food for months just to get a chance to come here. People don’t immigrate from a good situation — they flee from one that is unlivable. And they aren’t just coming to the US — look at the people fleeing from various parts of Africa to Europe. In many cases going “back” isn’t a viable option. If it were, why would they have put themselves and their families through all this agony?
The really ironic part is that we need those migrants in our labor force. They are the ones who put up with the ‘less-than-desirable’ jobs in slaughterhouses [so we don’t have to hire children], berry farms, heavy construction, chemical factories, etc. We are willing to let in people with education and talent [who compete with US citizens for high paying jobs], but we complain because we can’t find people to clean hotel rooms, wash cars, wait on tables, childcare, ditch digging, etc.
@kaffekup- As much as you, I and most of the folks on this board may despise former Dope #1, he wasn’t altogether wrong on some things. Building that wall may not have been a bad idea but we know Mexico wasn’t going to pay for it! But it’s the illegals who pose most of the problem.
Enduring the misery of traveling to our border, and the misery and humiliation while they’re here in custody, only to be sent back is a better shot at life than staying where they are. I get it now! Rethuglicans want to transform our government and society into one that is the same as the one the refugees are fleeing so that they won’t try to come here anymore. Problem solved! Genius!
If illegal immigrants are the problem, then the solution is to legalize them! Then give them help finding paying positions doing work that no-one else is willing to do.
Kaffekup is correct: it has been the GOP, since 2021, telling the world the Southern Border is wide open, while simultaneously blocking immigration reform (for over 30 years on the latter). This because they have no ideas to run on and hate the idea of America. Not all Republicans, mind you, just the MAGA crowd.

No wonder so many immigrants are trying to get into the US; the republicans keep telling them the “border is open”.
No, it’s not.

Yup, Republicans keep advertising that the border is open and then blame Biden when the immigrants arrive.

Looks like they are leaving.
