I’m sorry these people live in crappy countries but they can’t expect to come to the southern border and be let in. This is fuel for the far-right. It must be managed.
With a costly [to taxpayers] hard to penetrate border smugglers and human traffickers would be the main beneficiaries [e.g. as in Hungary] as the illegal immigrants would be so highly visible.
Exactly. The wall deterred no one. It will take an active patrol of the border, and I don’t think the US will do that, it makes us look like Russia or North Korea with an army along the border.
If you cannot put up a wall that has no breaks and is unscalable and undamageable, you are wasting money and time with plans for a wall.
And if you build it so that the tides will pull the bottom out, and build it with materials that a local-hardware-store-quality reciprocating saw can cut through like butter, you are succeeding only at lying to your most loyal supporters….well, actually, the whole world. No WONDER they’re laughing at us! They’re laughing at us!
And let’s take that one further: Congress refused to give the Dotard the amount of money he wanted in order to build the wall, since Mexico had refused to pay for it. Who could have known? I was SURE they would pay.
So, he took money that was already earmarked for improvements to US military capability. One could argue that made us less safe world-wide. But there is a bigger potential consequence.
One of those projects whose funds were squandered on a worthless excuse for a wall was to extend runways for an airbase in eastern Poland, near Belarus and Ukraine. Our newest and most capable aircraft require runways that are longer than what is presently there.
I may be reaching, but if we had extended those runways and assigned those aircraft there, perhaps Mr. Putin would have had second thoughts about his invasion. It would certainly have been a better deterrent than what was done instead.

And for decades our politicians have been every where but actually helping to address this issue.
