Ben is a stereotypical retiree. not all of us are like him – many, like me, are caring for disabled spouses and have so much on their plate it’s not funny. Still, I like the comic, it does often give me a needed laugh.
Husband was burned out in his early 50s. My accounting practice was much larger then and we had hopes of building up our handcrafted business so I ran the numbers and suggested he take a 6 month leave of absence from his job with an eye towards his feeling better and the idea that if he needed to – he would quit his job. He ended up quitting his job after the 6 months – it took a full year before he was so bored he wanted to go back to work – too late by then.
So,while we said he had not retired – merely changed careers from a well paying career in mental health to “starving artist with a patroness”.
Part of the agreement was that he would be on his own and I would live my days as I had before while he was work. I made the mistake of asking of he wanted to come out with me for my “Friday out alone” one week – and gradually we were together more and more all the time. Other than times like now – he is on his desktop computer in the office and I am on my laptop in the kitchen and the day a month I had been going to my remaining business client and the day once a month I went to my embroidery chapter meeting (both stopped during Covid and I am not ready to return to either yet) we are now together 24/7/365!

I am busier now than I was before I retired. Having to answer question from people at the office does make a difference.
