This is a stupid ritual. Why must it fall on men to always make sure the seat is lowered, but women are not required to raise the seat for their man when they are finished?
Health officials (Mythbusters) recommend keeping both lids closed when the toilet is not in use. It reduces, but doesn’t prevent, evaporative spread of bacteria in tiny fecal particles.

I always close the seat and lid every time. My wife leaves the lid open every time. Annoys the heck out of me. But do you see that in the comics, no!
