I’ve only been reading this comic for a few days now and I love it! I’ve got a question though, and I hope one of y’all will help me. Is Lio like Calvin? Does he have this rich and complex fantasy life which only he (and us) can see? Or does he really ride an alligator to school? And if he can ride an alligator to school why does he bother going? I mean if I could do something like that I’d only do it once. On the first day I’d ride him into school, have him eat all my teachers, and Jimmy Peters - what a jerk, and then we’d go home and watch cartoons all day.
Dypak: Mr. Tatulli has said in an interview that in Lio’s world these things are not just a part of his imagination but do happen. You’ll notice how others such as Lio’s father get to interact with the monsters, aliens, and other bizarre creatures (“oh, joy” for them).
Dypak: Imagine if Calvin’s fantasy world were real, only none of the other characters picked up on it. Lio can see it, we can see it, Lio’s Dad is pretty oblivious to it.

So that’s where the backpack went last week!
The alligator picked it up for safekeeping when Lio was abducted by the aliens.

Maybe it’s an American version of “The Luggage” from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series: http://www.paulkidby.com/tshirts/luggage-1.htm

Lio will never have to worry about bullies again. Calvin needs one to protect him from Moe. Hobbes is too soft hearted…sometimes.
