Never thought of it that way, but I put on my vibrating phone in a holster (though I rarely feel the vibrating when I keep myself moving, like at the grocery store parking lot collecting carts; the setting to vibrate lessens the distractions as I work if the phone wore set to ringing mode).

A brilliant idea: A phone that runs on Natural Gas! Bean Futures would soar!

Next, the climate advocates will be pushing for us to eat seaweed instead of legumes, which the nutritionists are push. Clean air or healthy body – what a choice.

Why are we concerned about methane?

Methane (CH4) colorless, odorless gas that occurs abundantly in nature and as a product of certain human activities. It is lighter than air and only slightly soluble in water. It burns readily in air, forming carbon dioxide and water vapor. In general, it is very stable, but mixtures with air, where the methane is 5-14% are explosive.

In nature, most methane is produced by decomposition of vegetable matter under water (where it is sometimes called marsh gas or swamp gas). Also termites (their digestive process), volcanoes, vents in the ocean floor, and methane hydrate deposits along continental margins and beneath permafrost. Natural gas is also 50-90% methane.

Major human sources of methane are the production and combustion of natural gas and coal are major human-associated sources of methane. Extracting and processing natural gas and manufacturing of coal gas and coke-oven gas release a lot of methane into the atmosphere. Other human sources include biomass burning [e.g., factories, controlled fires, gas heaters, gas stoves], livestock farming, leaky pipelines, and waste management.

Naturally-produced methane is offset by natural sinks in air and soil. In the air, methane reacts with hydroxyl radicals, forming water and carbon dioxide. In the soil, bacteria (methanotrophs) use it as a source of carbon in a process called methane oxidation.

Human-associated methane production, however, increases the methane more quickly than can be offset by sinks. Preindustrial levels of methane in the atmosphere averaged around 600-700 parts per billion. By 2022 atmospheric methane had reached 1908.61 ppb.

Green-house gases work by absorbing infrared radiation (heat) and re-radiating it back to the earth where it heats things up. And, methane breaks down into H2O and CO2 — two other green-house gases, prolonging the process.
