Worked on Black Friday a few times and it is a nightmare. Stores often have limited supplies of those “specials”So the employees get abused by irate customers.
Might still be, even though it’s most of the US economy, now that so little is actually made here now.
Who is/was the humorist who said something like, “Only in America, people trample others for sales exactly one day after being thankful for what they already have”?
For the first three panels, I thought we were talking about Taylor Swift tickets. Then I remembered we don’t camp out for tickets any more. Maybe we should.
This is why I don’t go holiday shopping on Black Friday on principle. It’s the day after Thanksgiving, many of us are still digesting our feasts, and we are just now turning our attention to Christmas. I have started on my Christmas gift list for the fam that I will be seeing on the big day. Next weekend I will start sending cards to everyone and to start buying presents. I buy most of my presents at small businesses and the holiday fair that runs until 12/24 in Downtown DC. But trampling others just to get a “deal”? Hard pass.
Is black friday still a big thing? The newspaper inserted ads were minimal on Thursday. I remember a few years ago, the paper on Thanksgiving would be 3-4 times thicker because of ads for Friday. I didn’t see any lines in front of stores as I drove by the retail stores driving home after Thanksgiving dinner. Nobody I know mentioned going shopping on Friday. Has it all migrated to online?

“Consumption” used to be a disease.
