There never was anything behind Putin’s facade. He is, like most “Authoritarians” (like his butt-buddy, Trump) a strictly a one-dimensional character – there is LITERALLY no “there” there! All of his policies are empty facades and his victories – hollow.
Death is the one absolute available to all his followers and supporters.
Unfortunately, because of oil revenue, a military industrial complex, and a secret service has no ethical boundaries, that “village” will have an oversized influence in a world that is hooked to petroleum.
Apropos of this, Grigory Potemkin’s bones have been disinterred from his final resting place in Kherson, Ukraine and are apparently being taken to Moscow. Since the whole “special operation” has been a particularly brutal sort of Potemkin Village of a war, conducted in the same territory where the phrase “Potemkin Village” was born, it’s almost too apt that the Russians have apparently decided to repatriate his remains after 230 years.
Reminds me of a documentary I saw of North Korea’s capital, Pyongyang. There are whole apartment blocks there that look fabulous streetside but there’s nothing behind them but decrepit buildings.

“Now if you load your rifle right
And if you fix your bayonet so
And if you kill that man my friend
The one we call the foe
And if you do it often lad
And if you do it right
You’ll be a hero overnight
You’ll save your country from her plight
Remember God is always right
If you survive to see the sight
A friend now greeting foe
No you won’t believe in If anymore
It’s an illusion" (Roger Whittaker)
