The time, they are not changing.

S.Killy comic from The Times Picayune 2010. Woman holding a box labeled Monopoly — Recession Edition. Guy says It’s like the original, only nobody has money, houses don’t sell, and the little car token has a family living in it.

    Bitter truth still.

I know a lot of homeless people. When my wife takes her health clinic on the road to the City Park, I tag along with my Air Force jacket and hat. My job is to troll for the veterans. So there’s my wife sticking people in the arms with needles giving flu shots on the street out of the back of our car.

I do know one woman personally who lives in her car. She has a job, but minimum wage doesn’t pay the rent anywhere anymore.

Thank God for the booming real estate market where rich people can flip houses and make big money or corporations can buy whole developments and rent them out for premium prices. Capitalism at its best!

For many people, if you don’t look, the problem goes away. There ought to be a law against homeless pitching their tents where they offend people who drive by.

My car has a pair of Air Force pilot’s wings on the front license plate. For a week I drove by one man on the corner who saluted me. I saluted him back. Unfortunately, when I went to look him up the following weekend, he was gone. I wonder who he is and what his story is.

So, one of my charities is Habitat for Humanity. Also, my wife is part of a group working to preserve and extend affordable housing.

Gimmie Shelter. Do what you can in the voting booth and at the local level.

With all the wealth in America, there should not be one person living on the streets! American Govt needs to take care of their own FIRST! Sickening

Isn’t it ironic, that some folks of a particular political stripe who claim to adhere to so called “Christian Values” are ones most reluctant to assist in charities and welfare. The mantra I often hear from them is “those lazy bums need to get a job, this is capitalist America”.

Many actually DO have a choice and refuse it. In our city, for example, there are many, many programs offering food, shelter, medical care and help in reentering society. Most homeless refuse to to avail of them. Granted, that’s often due to mental illness, but the laws don’t allow treatment if they refuse it. It’s a dilemma.
