The pro birth camp (who incorrectly label themselves as “pro life”) has been funded and supported by right wing money. Every sound bite they use, every meme they invent about what’s wrong with abortion has been invented by people who do not want us to get along. And yeah, the radicals on the other side are also being funded…
From my perspective it’s very easy. Everybody should be treated the according to the same principles. If a (white, middle aged) man has some right to bodily autonomy, then SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE including women, folks with high skin melanin, folks whose milk-tongue isn’t English… folks who want to wear stuff that makes other folks happy OR uncomfortable… everybody. The analogies are rife. “Why not make every young man get a free reversible vasectomy at puberty? It IS reversible, so there’s no reason not to, right?” Or “If someone needs a kidney and you have one that won’t be rejected, can you be forced to donate it? You have two, so there’s no real harm, right?” Of COURSE NOT. But some people seem to think that exactly that much coercion is correct for women simply because the “organ” involved might be born, might live, might become another human.
