In the US, it’s a “celebration” primarily driven by greeting card companies and florists. Not that mothers don’t deserve to be celebrated… it’s just sad that the celebration seems to be largely commercial.
Ann Telnaes’s cartoon today has an envelope addressed “To: American Women” (the stamp reads “USA after Roe”). The card, which is illustrated with a vase of roses and a candy box, reads “Happy Property of the State Day”.
