    A fair point.

The people who need to wear them the most are the worst at wearing them.

When the nurse at the lab can’t be bothered to wear hers over her nose, you know there’s no hope. At least she did keep pushing it back up after it fell down while she talked…

He does have a good point. Masks do work but it’s the N95 respirator masks that are the most effective and half the people wearing masks don’t wear them properly. Here is some data showing mask effectiveness. I personally have only been wearing a cloth mask this entire time, and I know it should be something better. Sometimes I double them up especially when I’ve been to the doctor, hospital settings, or will be inside in a crowded area for some time. Still, this study does show that even cloth masks reduce the odds of getting COVID.

I’ve noticed this in the stores, those that require “wearing” a mask to come into the store. Customers will wear the mask properly as they enter the business, but drop the mask below their noses while shopping. So, how many really care about the safety of others, and not about the convenience of themselves? Not many, I guess.

A colleague told me she came down with a cold just before her vacation to Hawaii. She said she was absolutely not giving up that trip. When she got to Hawaii, she learned it wasn’t a cold, but covid. How many other people are doing the same thing? Thanks, judge.

Danish Study Doesn’t Prove Masks Don’t Work Against the Coronavirus

Q: Did a recent study in Denmark show that face masks are useless for COVID-19?

A: No. The study found that face masks did not have a large protective effect for wearers — not that masks provide no protection at all or don’t offer benefits to others.

FULL QUESTIONAre masks proven to be useless for COVID-19?

FULL ANSWERNews of the results of a recent randomized controlled trial in Denmark testing a face mask intervention has led some to conclude that masks are ineffective against the coronavirus, or SARS-CoV-2.

But scientists say that’s the wrong takeaway — and even the authors of the study say the results shouldn’t be interpreted to mean masks shouldn’t be worn.

The trial evaluated whether giving free surgical masks to volunteers and recommending their use safeguarded wearers from infection with the coronavirus, in addition to other public health recommendations. The study didn’t identify a statistically significant protective effect for wearers, but the trial was only designed to detect a large effect of 50% or more. And the study didn’t weigh in on the ability of masks to prevent spread of the virus from wearers to others, or what’s known as source control, which is thought to be the primary way that masks work.

The pilots and crew are very happy about dropping the mandate, not at all as depicted in this ‘toon. Also, I’ve flown several times since the pandemic and not once did I see any passengers acting in the manner you depict.
