Stop chaining up the dog! Who left the socks out in the first place? I had a dog who liked to "taste’ shoes. I just never left shoes outside of a closed closet door. Problem solved. Dogs aren’t machinery, and many of them will steal and chw up socks, shoes, underwear, plastic dishes or candles (the scents can attract them) and all kind of thing that are very dangerous for them. They usually grow out of it at some point, but it’s the human’s job to protect the dog. not punish him by tying him up outside like bait.
Hey, Paul, it’s not Buckles’ fault that he chewed up your socks. If you’d put them in a place where he wouldn’t get at them, then you wouldn’t have chained him up outside!
