Not in my house it is not. I taught the senior cat the Rules of the House, and he taught the next in line, and so it continued. The senior always teaches the newest resident. They have a scratching post and each has a door mat that is each one’s to scratch in addition.
My parents went to a rental return furniture store once to buy our next sofa. We got an excellent deal on one that had been returned with a minor amount of cat-scratching on the front corners. My dad said “Well, heck, it’ll look like that in a week anyway.” And my mom agreed. Funny thing is, once it’s been scratched, it really doesn’t get much worse.
