The truth (as I see it) is that there is a LOT of very good stuff available online. From “stuff for sale” through “entertainment (many kinds)” through “learn how to (anything)” through “look up details” to “making connections” for work or play. The other part of the truth is illustrated above. And the problem is that it’s hard (especially for people who have skin in the game) to distinguish which is which. I use the internet to read the news (BBC, Aljazeera, AP, daily email or three). I use it to keep track of friends and relatives on Facebrick (I have so far avoided other similar). I use it to seek out “What does this error message mean” when I’m pushing my programming envelope and “WTF do I do about THAT problem” when I’m in IT mode… and I look up zip codes, area codes, addresses (I like google’s map better than Apple’s) and recipes that use (the stuff I just found in the back of the cupboard). Heck, I even use it to buy things… and communicate by email too.
