First: Spend meaningful time with them when they are alive. Second: Have reminders around: pictures, artifacts, their artwork and crafts if any, favorite books/music, et al. Works pretty well for me…

I wish I had asked more questions of my parents and grandmothers when I was growing up. Asked them about what their lives were like before they were married. Now it’s too late.

I asked, no one would tell me. Now I know it was for a good reason. Would like to know the details tho…but im the only one left. Nobody in the younger generations know, and it’s going to stay that way.

As the family photographer, I am seldom in the picture, always behind the camera. Recently had to submit a head and shoulders image and mostly I was either absent or it was a silly image taken by a family member. (Although it can be done, taking a “Selfie” with a DLSR is a lot of work). Have a few with my iPhone but they are not for serious use.

If it’s possible, in addition to photos, make some recordings. Ask questions about their life.

A recent Sunday strip filledin Marcy’s dad.A doctor in Biloxi,Mississippi——took an offer for a higher post in a Philly hospital.

Died of massive heart attack when he was only 40,which no doubt influenced Marcy’s decision to work in the cardiac unit.

I’ll give it a “like” for some reason that escapes me. My memories are fading a little, not horrible, but would probably be more sad if I really understood then. Lifelong habit, this alexithymia.

I have no problem remembering my Father. The older I get, the more I look like him….
