A lot of our guidelines are getting watered down because some states refuse to abide by them (even going so far as to outlaw mandatory masking and other safety procedures). Also, after 2 years the will to do many things we need to in order to stop the infections just isn’t there any more.
Should-da, would-da, could-da. Monday morning quarterbacking is easy and safe — no expertise required (or even wanted); no supplies or equipment to locate and/or develop; no risks to identify and assess; no effort involved except to sneer and bluster. It’s easy to point to possible mistakes and identify things that should have been done (by others) after-the-fact. Especially when the MMQ isn’t involved in any of the actual doing.

The only way to handle it is to vaccinate the world, otherwise it just keeps mutating. But that would mean putting people ahead of profits.

The problem with diseases, they give you one shot to stop them. If you miss, they work on their schedule and we play catch-up.
