As with most months, the origin of their names are Roman gods. January was Janus, the Roman god of beginnings as well as gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages and [go figure] endings.

The problem with a bright sunny sky in the months early and very late in the year is the really LOW temperatures that accompany it. Often gray skies give us warmer conditions, but then may be followed by cold rain (here in the deep south USA) or sleet and snow further north.

With insincere apologies to Disney, I propose this cartoon be titled, “Painting with All the Colors of the Winter Wind.”

It should be called “Ted Cruz flees to Cancun and blaims his daughters, the sequal”

Until about 1735, the New Year was March 1.The Ides are not always on the 15th of the month. They can range up to the 19th.I’m to lazy to look the exact dates on all of these. But it’s close enough.
