A co-worker used to say: It’s okay if you talk to yourself as long as you don’t get any answers. That’s when the men in their white coats come and carry you away! ;-)
Every time I watch a sports interview, on TV, I figure they must not require speech as a class in High School or College any more and should be a requires course for athletes. I counted 8 and’s, 7 er’s and 10 um’s in a 1 minute interview. If fact, I think that’s about all they said.
For most of my 68 years I’ve been plagued by the phenomenon of doorways sucking out the memory of what I went into that room for. I’ve finally gotten into the habit of muttering to myself what it was (“nail clippers, nail clippers, nail clippers…” or whatever) all the way. Luckily I live alone, so I don’t have to worry about anyone thinking (or knowing, more like) I’m crazy… 8-D
I used the original draft (although still disputed by some authorities) of Abe’s famous speech for a video I made for our church’s 175th anniversary: “In November of 1863, while the congregation of Knox was listening to Reverend Lochead deliver his Sunday sermon, Abraham Lincoln was sitting in his pew in the New York Avenue Presbyterian church formulating his Gettysburg Address: Four score and seven years from now, we might have cushions on these pews. There’s only so much a backside – can long endure.”

I had to repeat; “Arthur Carter sells earthworms at the airport,” in order to learn to say my “R’s” correctly.
