I believe they are talking about Helm’s Bakery in los Angeles, yes they were very tasty, they eventually turned the bakery building into a huge antique store.

Didn’t need that in my old ’hood. We lived on top of a bakery. My bedroom was over the ovens. (o:

Anyone old enough to remember the Helms delivery trucks in the LA area can relate!

In the summer of 1958, I was seven and an independent contractor in Tulsa. I would walk about three blocks from home with my wagon to a local doughnut shop and he would load me up with paper bags of a half-dozen. I would then walk back to my neighborhood and over a three block area (or until I ran out), I knocked on doors and sold the bags. When I was finished, I would walk back to his shop to give him the money and he would give me a percentage.
