Many cartoons on this subject. Recall how Greta Thunberg got to the UN to make her speech? As leaders these people need to LEAD the way. As powerful people, they simply don’t have time. I think it would have been very wise indeed to hold this meeting by video-conference. But what I think affects their behavior, if at all, by pushing them in the opposite direction, at least based on what I think and what they end up doing.
Time to stop playing the “hypocrisy” card at every turn. Yes the delegates fly there but that is a drop in the bucket compared to one day’s worth of all flights. We are so late in acting on the climate that speed is required.
hjmpianoman has a half track mind, or, possibly, narrower. Or else, he/she/it is totally against anything which would help alleviate Global Warming. It is the rising average temperature of the planet which is cause the the climate to change so incredibly rapidly. Under normal conditions The climate takes thousand of years to change as much as it has in the last half century. As for the use of airplanes to reach the conference, Meeting face-to-face is much more effective than zoom conferencing, Personal contact, even with social distancing, still allows people to read body language and other important clues. Fixing global warming/climate change problems is important to our continued existence as a species.
Maybe hjmpianoman has stock on fossil fuel companies and is elderly or in poor health and figures that he/she/it will be dead before it becomes personal.
