National GOE Day. National GOE Day – Growth. Overcome. Empower. The Sunday of the first full weekend in October encourages us to support safe spaces for healing and connection for those who have been victimized by abuse and trauma. The day focuses on healing, recovery and providing resources that support overcoming these overwhelming obstacles in life. While abuse and trauma bring enormous emotional, mental, and physical challenges, when we overcome these challenges, it’s time to celebrate. Growth. Overcome. Empower. These elements all go into achieving the seemingly impossible. Part of the healing process requires us to feel secure and make connections with others.
It is also the day of my 45th high school class reunion. I haven’t gone to any of the previous reunions because they’re always held in bars and I don’t drink. Also, they’ve been held in places like Milwaukee and I didn’t want to drive that far (and I hate driving in the city). But this year, it’s a family sports bar and it’s less than 2 miles from my house, so I’m going. It starts at noon with a “social hour” with cocktails. Kinda early to start drinking, if you ask me. Lunch is at noon. I’m not really a party person, so I hope I have fun. I have high hopes it will be fun.
Boy, oh boy, did I mess up! I’ve never made this mistake before. I’m so embarrassed that I could make such a blunder. I was so sure that Oliver was a boy that I stopped looking to make certain. But last night, I looked again and discovered that little Oliver is a GIRL!!! Well, rather than shortening her name from Oliver to Olive (Olive just doesn’t feel right to me), I’m calling her Molly. I was calling her Ollie as short for Oliver, so I just stuck the “M” at the start and now she’s Molly. I’m still having a little trouble adjusting, since I was used to the kitten being a boy. And I really liked the name Oliver. I like Molly too, but it’s still an adjustment.
If you’re seeing a bright star high in the southern sky, it’s probably Jupiter. https://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/visible-planets-tonight-mars-jupiter-venus-saturn-mercury/
Jack and Chesney fighting in today’s comic reminds me of the comments section of today’s Shoe. Hoo boy, there’s a LOT of hostility over there! I’m glad the comments section over here is more civilized and everyone pretty much gets along fine. On another note, saw two wooly bear caterpillars while out walking today.
