Yea, there has always been contention. Yes, there have always been radical outliers. But the dysfunction fueled by polarization appears to be concretizing. That will increase the frustration and disillusionment of increasing numbers of citizens, opening the door to a strongman/woman who will cut the Gordian knots regardless of traditional and legal constraints, ending the Democratic experiment. The next Trump will be far worse.
