When I was a kid, we would go to the Watermelon Days in Dike, Iowa (near Waterloo). This year, it is on Friday and Saturday, August 13-14. Free watermelon slices begins at 4:00 pm on Saturday.
When I was a kid the local Democratic Club near my house would have an annual FREE CORN ROAST day every August. Then the residents nearby like us would spend the next day picking up all the cobbs and napkins that everyone threw on the ground. Then the proceeds would benefit Anti Littering campaigns.
