“Whoever did that, they should be charged with treason! They should be executed!”— Trump to advisers in 2020, on leak of info that he had been taken to bunker for safety during George Floyd protests
Joint Chiefs chairman feared potential ‘Reichstag moment’ aimed at keeping Trump in power
In the waning weeks of Donald Trump’s term, the country’s top military leader repeatedly worried about what the president might do to maintain power after losing reelection, comparing his rhetoric to Adolf Hitler’s during the rise of Nazi Germany and asking confidants whether a coup was forthcoming, according to a new book by two Washington Post reporters.
As Trump ceaselessly pushed false claims about the 2020 presidential election, Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, grew more and more nervous, telling aides he feared that the president and his acolytes may attempt to use the military to stay in office, Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker report in “I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J. Trump’s Catastrophic Final Year.”
Milley described “a stomach-churning” feeling as he listened to Trump’s untrue complaints of election fraud, drawing a comparison to the 1933 attack on Germany’s parliament building that Hitler used as a pretext to establish a Nazi dictatorship.
“This is a Reichstag moment,” Milley told aides, according to the book. “The gospel of the Führer.”
Portions of the book related to Milley – first reported Wednesday night by CNN ahead of the book’s July 20 release – offer a remarkable window into the thinking of America’s highest-ranking military officer, who saw himself as one of the last empowered defenders of democracy during some of the darkest days in the country’s recent history.
If she gets pregnant, make sure that she doesn’t have an abortion after 6 weeks (when most women don’t even know that they are pregnant) and if anyone drives her and helps her to get that abortion (even an Uber driver) can be fined $10,000 and the charges for that fine can be made from some stranger on the street that happened to see it.
Journalists need to do a better job laying out which parts the TX Dems are against in the GOP Voting bill. Instead, corporate media is allowing TX GOP to mischaracterize what is all in the bill. Not to mention, the fight Dems put up to force the original bill(s) from ever making to the floor; those were even worse.
Trump played to his “supporters” who appear to be a bunch of mental midgets, and that is an insult to midgets. Those who support trump never attended a “civics” class. How damning to our education system.
Just a separation of powers question – I thought the Executive couldn’t enforce laws against the legislature unless they allowed it. Did the Texas legislature permit sheriffs acting at the behest of the Governor to arrest legislators?
Related: Texas Constitution Article 3 Sec. 14. PRIVILEGE FROM ARREST DURING LEGISLATIVE SESSION. Senators and Representatives shall, except in cases of treason, felony, or breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during the session of the Legislature, and in going to and returning from the same.
Their next step is to throw out all those Democrat legislators, and hold new elections for their seats – which they will oversee, and throw out any results they don’t like, and pick the “winners” themselves…
We know that the seditionists on January 6 did in fact bring weapons including firearms. We know they brought zip ties and that they intended to kidnap and murder members of Congress. We know they intended to overthrow the election so that their loser leader would be declared the winner — because they do not honor the constitution. We know this because of their online posts in preparation for the attack. The fact that they failed and that they discovered the nation did not support them does not make their actions any less seditious, heinous or despicable.
Hum, one is a group that s failing to do their duty and failing to do what they were elected to do, the other is a person that we now have video of talking to a capitol police officer than being shown into the building by that officer. Yes, one is dressed like an idiot. As for the socialist lawmakers from Texas, that are refusing to do their paid job, they have yet to give a copy of the actual legislation to anyone, have yet to point out the exact portions that they do not like, and have yet to name a single voter who’s right to vote would be made harder if the legislation is passed. This is all theater, meant to divide the country even more, which is what the democratic party wants and needs to stay in power. Everything they do or claim divides the country more and more. Anything they do not like, they call “racist.” THey claim anyone that does not agree with them is a “racist white supremacy nut,” even if it is a “black” person. At some point, moderate democrats will see what is happening, and will leave the democratic party. Then the democratic party will truly be the socialist democratic party, and have a following of only radical socialist. This is already started. I know several democrats, who voted for biden, that now regret their choice and have left the party. This must be why 60% of all Americans think that biden is not in charge, 86% do not trust the “news” media, and 88% do not trust the people running the congress today (pelosi and schumer). This is the worse level of trust of the office of the President, the “news” media, and of congress in the history of the Union.
