Societal priorities change just as personal priorities change. Look at all the changes since 1899. From lightbulbs to computers to airplanes and all the myriad inventions and improvements. Heck, even cartoons moving from a page on the newspaper to a page on a computer app to an individual strip you have to pay for separately. Who ever thought that a kink in the semiconductor supply chain would cause the price of a used car to skyrocket to the point where a new car was cheaper?
